Mary Elizabeth Cosgrove was an active member of Saint Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, which is still located on Court Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. The below photo of the church was taken in 1940.

The house located at 45 4th Street is in the neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. It has since been demolished, but according to the below Sanborn map from 1915 the building they lived in was a four family brick building, and was located just a block from the Gowanus Canal and its surrounding industrial areas. Mary’s death certificate classified the “character” of the building as a “tenement.”
